How to blur faces in a video on iPhone

Videos from sports days and trips often include people outside your family. Blur their faces before you post.
This guide walks through the free Kakusu app with real screenshots. It finds the faces in your video automatically and follows them as they move.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad
- The Kakusu app (free)
Your video is never uploaded to a server. Everything happens on your device, and there is no account to create.
Steps
1. Tap “Choose a photo or video”
Open the app and tap the yellow button at the bottom.
2. Pick a video
Choose the video you want to blur from your library. Kakusu can only see the items you pick here.
3. Faces are blurred automatically
Once the video loads, every face it finds is covered with a mosaic. Each face gets its own row below the video.
4. Choose the style and coverage
Tap a face row to open its settings.
- Coverage: slide from “Face only” to “Hair & neck”
- Mask style: choose Mosaic, Blur, Solid fill or Sticker
5. Turn it off for faces you want to show
For your own child or anyone you want to show, switch off “Hide this face”. Only that person is unblurred.
6. Cover name tags with your finger
Text such as name tags isn't hidden automatically. Tap “Add mask” below the face rows and draw around the area with your finger.
Drag the corner handles to resize it. Choose “Follow motion” for something that moves, or “Entire video” to cover it from start to finish.
7. Save
Tap Save in the top-right corner. A new video is saved to Photos and the original stays untouched. There is no watermark.
Check before you post
Automatic detection can miss faces seen from the side or very small faces. Watch the saved video once to the end and check:
- No faces were missed
- No name tags, school badges or signs that reveal an address
- No licence plates
- No names or school names spoken aloud (turn audio off before saving if needed)
If something does not work
A face becomes visible partway through
Detection or tracking may miss side profiles, small faces, dark scenes or fast movement. Add a manual mask over the missed area, then play the surrounding frames to check the coverage.
A manually added mask stays still
A new mask starts as a fixed area. Position it over the subject at the start of the movement and run tracking. Changing its time range or position clears tracking, so run it again after making those changes.
The video will not save to Photos
Check permission to add photos from Settings & Help, and check the free space on your device. Long or high-resolution videos need more processing time and storage.

Pricing
Kakusu is free to use, with no limit on video length. The free version shows ads. A one-time Kakusu Pro purchase removes ads and adds original stickers. It's not a subscription.
